Archbishop Malkhaz Songulashvili Visited Pathgate Institute
Ven. Lama Dondrup Dorje with His Excellency Malkhaz Songulashvili at the Pathgate Dharma Centre in Newcastle upon Tyne, England

The Archbishop of the Evangelical Baptist Church of Georgia in the Caucasus region of Eurasia, His Excellency Malkhaz Songulashvili, visited Ven. Lama Dondrup Dorje in late November on a fact finding mission to learn more about Buddhism. Over the period of two days, Ven. Lama Dondrup Dorje spent time with the Archbishop during which informal discussions were held and insights on different topics were exchanged.

Throughout their time together, Ven. Lama Dondrup Dorje answered questions from the Archbishop that covered a wide range of subjects such as love and compassion, the development of wisdom, the beginnings of the monastic tradition within Buddhism, the role of the lama, and the growth of Buddhism around the world. Both share the common recognition that the foundation of spiritual practice should begin from the cultivation of being a good person first, and true learning can only come about through the direct experience of actual practice instead of indulging in conceptual speculation without action.... Success in Dharma Practice
Khenpo Tsultrim Tentar led his 9th classes Shedra students of the Tsogyal Shedrup Dargyeling Nunnery performing circumambulation at the end of term ceremony

In the Audio Teaching ‘Success in Dharma practice’, Ven. Lama Dondrup Dorje explains how successes in mundane activities, often seen as the path to happiness, are in fact causes that lead us to the realm of future suffering. As long as we focus our effort solely on worldly activities, we will never attain the fruition of lasting happiness.

Success in Dharma practice does not come from the overpowering of others, but rather by removing the fixation of false view we have of ourselves and by the elimination of obscurations we have of the nature of reality. Why should we get ecstatic when things go well in our life or get overly unhappy when conditions around us have become challenging and difficult? When we find ourselves becoming the target of insult or attack, there is also no reason to respond in anger or resentment. Instead, it is far more beneficial to maintain a calm and stable mind at all times. This is the key to success in Dharma practice.

Using stories from the time of Lord Buddha and accounts of past Buddhist masters, Ven. Lama Dondrup Dorje encourages students to let go of their attachment to the obsession of conceptual view and focus instead on quietly accomplishing essential acts of virtue for the two-fold benefit of all beings and oneself.

To listen to this and other teachings, visit Audio Teaching by Ven Lama Dondrup Dorje, on the Pathgate Institute website.
